Dagmar Köhler, Strategic Advisor
Women in Cycling is gaining momentum across Europe but how do we turn visibility into real change? This interactive workshop brings together women’s cycling networks from five countries and the EU level to exchange perspectives, share insights, and co-create solutions for a more inclusive and impactful cycling sector. With active chapters across Europe, Women in Cycling is working to strengthen representation, connect stakeholders, and inspire more women to shape and choose cycling from a perspective of planning, product, communication, advocacy and collaboration. Based on recent studies from France, Germany, and Italy, this session invites participants into a dynamic World Café format, where key questions around visibility, inclusivity, industry transformation, and cross-border collaboration will be explored. Mythbusting cycling while pregnant – Global stories of joy, inspiration, and freedom
17 Jun 2026 16:00 – 17:00 Arengo Fireside Chat
Speaker – Dagmar Köhler, Strategic Advisor
As more women experience how cycling can be a safe, comfortable, and efficient way to make their daily trips, particularly care trips, cities are starting to respond with more gender-responsive approaches. How can we continue this trend and incorporate another important stage in many women’s lives: pregnancy. Cycling provides a comfortable, less physically demanding, and more dependable option. However, there remain misconceptions around cycling while pregnant. In this fireside chat, we’ll discuss the benefits cycling during pregnancy offer from a global perspective and ways to plan for changing needs. Pregnancy is not a niche experience. The better we understand pregnant women’s experiences, the better we can ensure cycling meets their needs even in this temporary but normal part.
Fatbikes in Focus: A Town Hall Debate on Safety and Regulation
18 Jun 2026 10:45 – 11:45 Arco Two-way Track Debate
Moderator – Dagmar Köhler, Strategic Advisor
Speaker – Anna Wyner, Sustainable Mobility Consultant
Fatbikes, electric bicycles with wide tires, large saddles, and pedal-assist up to 25 km/h, have rapidly gained popularity in the Netherlands. Their rise has also sparked heated debate: concerns about safety, rule compliance, and crowded cycling infrastructure are increasingly discussed in municipalities and even in the Dutch Parliament. Should cities regulate them more strictly – or ban them altogether? Join this interactive session to explore the issue from multiple perspectives. Participants will become members of the fictional town hall of Rimitopia, where a decision on fatbikes must be made. After statements from different stakeholders (cycling advocates, researchers, citizens, and city authorities) about safety, user groups, needs and priorities, the floor opens for debate. Your voice matters: together, the assembly will decide whether Rimitopia should regulate, restrict, or ban fatbikes.
Climate resilience: How cycling fights climate change
19 Jun 2026 10:00 – 10:45 Arco Lectures
Speaker – Anna Wyner, Sustainable Mobility Consultant
Cycling is a powerful tool in the fight against climate change, offering low-carbon mobility while supporting healthier, more resilient cities. This session explores how cycling infrastructure and policies can both mitigate emissions and help cities adapt to changing climate conditions. Speakers will present solutions for designing cycling networks that remain comfortable and reliable in hot and humid environments, highlighting materials, shading, and urban design strategies. The discussion will also feature a call to action for climate-resilient active mobility in Global South cities, where rapid urbanisation and climate risks demand inclusive, scalable solutions.
